Oh jeez, I was all gung ho about this website for like a week and now it seems that I’ve ‘blogfaded’ away into the distance. Alas, I’m still here and I’m better than ever. I’m currently pushing my way through a nasty plateau but I’ve lost a whopping 25 pounds in less than 3 months! I’m super proud of myself and what I’ve accomplished, particularly in the wake of so much temptation left and right. I’m now less than 2 weeks away from my wedding and holy crap I’ve nearly reached my goal. Let’s do an update, shall we?
I’ve been on the ketosis diet for a few weeks now, staying under 20 grams of carbs, peeing on keto sticks to make sure I’m burning fat instead of carbohydrates for my energy. I’m getting sick of bacon, as ridiculous as that sounds! Also eggs. I could go 6 months without ever eating another egg at this point. But damn I’ve been so steadfast in my resolve and I’m proud of myself. I have only had one diet soda in 3 months, and it wasn’t even good. I think I’m actually done with soda forever, and don’t miss it even a little bit. I’ve become an unsweetened iced tea addict. My fiance has been doing keto as well, and he’s lost a lot of weight too! He said it was motivation for him to join in because I started to catch up to his weight. 😉 Damn men, they lose weight so much faster when they want to!
I’ve lost 25 pounds, and I’ve lost about 1 and a half pants sizes. You would think losing 25 pounds would be more than that, but I definitely lost a lot from my legs and my face more than my waist. I’ve gotten a lot of comments about how much thinner I am, and I think you can definitely tell in my face region.
I have been really pretty darn good with exercising. I haven’t ridden my horse very much because I’ve been swamped with work stuffs, travel, and wedding planning. However, I’ve been doing my best to get my butt moving every single day. However, I have some bad news. I quit CrossFit. Yep, I know. I went from very excited about it to not at all happy with it, in typical Tami fashion. I have a good excuse though! The last class I went to was incredibly brutal. I was doing squats with 75 pounds worth of barbell, and I got to the point where I squatted down and couldn’t get back up. They kept adding more weight on me to the point where I could barely stand. The workout itself wasn’t that bad, but it was the aftermath that I couldn’t deal with. I literally couldn’t walk for 5 days afterward. That’s not the kind of lifestyle I want! I am typically active every single day, walking my dogs, walking to the grocery store, going for runs, riding my horse, hiking, riding my bike, etc. and this one 20 minute workout put me on my butt for almost a full week. I realize that it could have been the particular CrossFit box that I went to (my friend Caitlin is doing CrossFit at another box and isn’t having these kind of issues, for example) but I just don’t see how CrossFit fits into *my* life right now. I think it’s a cool thing to do, but for $150-200 a month I’d rather get a personal trainer to give me nothing but 1:1 time to whip me into shape. I’m not ruling it out, particularly after I get more fit and slimmer and want to bulk up with some muscle…but right now I’m losing weight just doing what I’m doing.
I’ve been doing a lot of variety in my workouts. I’ve done a bit of fitness ‘tapes’ on YouTube (high intensity interval training courtesy of Fitness Blender) though admittedly I could do more of them. I’ve been running more than ever. Today I just finished the first day of WEEK 5 of Couch to 5K, which is the furthest I have ever achieved in the program. 15 minutes of running doesn’t seem like much, but it’s surprisingly difficult for someone who doesn’t run. I’m almost halfway done with the program, which means it might be time to sign up for a real 5k later this year so I have a goal to point myself at! I’ve been mostly running around my neighborhood but I’ve taken a few trips elsewhere (like Mission Bay) to change up the scenery a bit.
I’ve also been hiking as much as I can, exploring Mission Trails Regional Park and also the trails around Lake Poway. I love hiking. It’s challenging, exciting, beautiful, and is an awesome way to burn calories. I have a Polar FT7 heart rate monitor now and I love to wear it and get a more accurate measure of how many calories I’m burning. I’ve definitely turned into someone who loves to exercise, especially if outdoors in the sunshine. I love taking advantage of the beautiful weather here in San Diego.
So, that’s what’s going on. I am getting married in like 12 days and trying on wedding dresses was awesome. I can’t believe how great I looked. I’m so excited for the big day and to see what the next life milestone will be. 🙂 I can’t wait to share wedding pictures!---------------
