Near the end of last week I was up in Santa Monica for work for a couple of days. It was a short little trip but it was a lot of fun as we had a company offsite/party held at the boutique Hotel Erwin in Venice, CA. We played the awesome party board game A Terrible Time and sipped fancy cocktails on the hotel’s gorgeous rooftop lounge:
After being in white-knuckle traffic for almost four hours on my way back to San Diego, I was so happy to see my husband and my dogs. By this time it was already almost 8:00pm and we were absolutely starving. We ended up walking up the street to Zia Pizza, one of our favorite pizza places. I probably should mention that they put cream cheese on some of their pizzas, which is basically one of my favorite flavors on a pizza EVER. They have lots of vegan and gluten free options too, so if you’re looking for a unique pizza experience in San Diego you should hit them up. I managed to hold myself to only two slices though I wanted to eat more like FOUR. Watching what I eat is hard.
After this we ended up stopping at Lestat’s for an after-dinner coffee and a cookie snack for Luke. I was totally loving on this new neighborhood-themed art piece they have!
After that we walked down the street to the new home of Villainous Lair Comics & Games. If you live ANYWHERE near this place, you need to go. The games store and the comics store used to be in separate buildings, but they now combined into one new megaspace on Adams Avenue and it’s seriously fantastic. As in, by far the best comics and board games store in San Diego. They have a huge comics area, a big memorabilia/toy section, and then a huge room dedicated to tabletop & board gaming. I ended up picking up the first story in the Emily & The Strangers comic series because my friend Mariah Huehner wrote it!
Saturday morning I drove down to bring some grain to Rosiehorse and gave her some fly spray to relieve her. The flies have been so bad lately, it’s just frustrating! Hopefully that made her more comfortable. I then went to a spin & pilates fusion class which was a great way to burn 500 calories and get a great workout. Luke, our friend Caitlin, and I then went out for a quick lunch, then down to The Grove in South Park to buy some more fabric for curtains, grabbed a coffee, and then came home to nerd out and play videogames all night. #weekends
Yesterday I woke up early and headed down to the ranch and Caitlin and I went for a ride. I worked Rosie in the arena quite a bit (she’d had a week off, and we’ve been struggling with her left lead for no reason lately) and then we went on a short trail ride over to the other side of the farm and rode in the mirrored dressage arena. She was a goddess today, except when we poked our noses into the trail arena which was filled with all sorts of obstacles & tarps. She was pretty sure they were going to eat her. Someone needs some desensitization training…..
We finished up our weekend by going grocery shopping at Trader Joes and then spending some quality gaming time together. All in all, it was a great weekend and I can’t complain one bit (except it was pretty hot…)
