This weekend I decided to cheer on my friend & fellow stablemate who was showing in the Ranch Horse Pleasure class at the Del Mar Horsepark. If you haven’t heard of or been to the Del Mar Horsepark – you’re sadly missing out! It’s a wonderful facility with tons of arenas. It’s so great to have this dedicated equestrian facility in the San Diego area! I love going to horse shows. I enjoy cheering friends on and taking photos there more than I actually enjoy showing myself, which is why this was such a great opportunity.
My friend showed in the youth class in Ranch Horse Pleasure, which is a really neat new discipline in the AQHA shows. In fact, Rosie and I have showed in it a bit ourselves! It’s a great pattern for reining & reined cow horse trained horses because the basics all translate over. You have to lope, extended lope, jog, extended jog, walk over poles, back up, do 2 ‘spins’/turnarounds, one lead change (flying OR simple) and show how versatile and good your horse is. I love the class because you’re not allowed to get all dolled up like other AQHA pleasure classes. No bling, no braided/banded manes, simple Western shirts & long manes preferred. It’s great for those of us with lesser budgets and less fancy ponies too!
Enjoy some photos from the day!
