Today I was recovering from the frustration that was having a bingo last night but not realizing it until it was too late, therefore not winning the $1,000 I would have won had I noticed. Ugh. I used to think using the machines was ‘cheesy’, but after having this human error event happen I’m a changed woman.
I headed out to the ranch to see Rosie today, thinking I would be able to ride. Unfortunately, the arenas were still closed from the rain we had on Thursday night. It’s pretty shocking how much rain they had up in Del Mar, because down in my neck of the woods we’re dry as a bone. Our farm has fantastic footing in the arenas, and all of that is because of the meticulous care they give to them so I can’t really complain. But when the arenas are closed up, that means no turnouts, lunging, or riding for Rosie. So she was ridden by her trainer on Thursday, then sat in the pen on Friday & Saturday, and today I had to just hand walk her around the ranch.
She was a spitfire. Spooking, leaping, bolting, and of course I don’t own a stud chain. So I ended up having to just stick to the aisles between the horse corrals and walk up and down over and over again for 45 minutes. I then spent some time cleaning her up, putting goop on her hooves and brushing out her tail before putting her back into the pen. This week is Thanksgiving, and she has a vet appointment for shots on Wednesday morning and then will be getting a day off afterwards. I hope to ride Friday and have a lesson on Saturday, but we’ll have to see how things go. Weather is supposed to be in the mid to high 70’s, so it should be great weather for riding. Maybe we’ll even hit the trail! I’d love to get her out there.
