It was only a few weeks ago when I posted a history of Rosie that I mentioned that I don’t have any baby pictures of her, nor any photos of her dam. I had emailed her breeder a couple years ago and never heard back, so that same day I ended up following up on the email. I got the best Christmas surprise when they sent me photos of her as a brand new foal and weanling, and of all of her siblings as foals, and of her dam! I was so excited!
Newborn Rosie, shortly after birth. Her head was so long and awkward! But I can see so much similarity in that little cute face of hers. I find it interesting that her surrogate mare was a dun! Rosie was an embryo transfer, as many AQHA breeding stock are. But look at THOSE LEGS!
This picture just slays me. Her face is exactly the same. She truly hasn’t changed! Another thing I love about this picture is being able to see that she used to live in a pasture in Texas back in the day. I’d love to bring her back to that sort of living environment someday, as I think it would be so good for her mind. I just want to squish her in these pics!
Here’s Rosie’s momma, Custom Red Rose (a full sister to Custom Red Berry). I think Rosie looks a lot like her, though probably a little less than her sire. I think she’s a nice combination of both. Is roan a recessive genetic trait? I find it interesting that all of Rosie’s full siblings are sorrel and not roan.
I just love getting these little glimpses into her past. It’s so fun to imagine what her life was like in the 3 years of her life before she was mine.---------------
