Saturday is my typical horse day, but this weekend I was slammed with moving prep. Ugh. So I ended up going out to visit Rosie on Sunday, but I was too exhausted to do much of anything. I brought out her brand new fly sheet (it’s purple!) and thought I’d turn her out for a little romp in the arena. I should have known she was in a bad mood from the start, because she walked away from me nonchalantly and didn’t really want me to halter her. She’s done that once or twice before in the past, so I wasn’t TOO aggravated by it. But clearly she wasn’t as excited to see me as I was to see her.
I turned her out in the arena and she slowly plodded around, stopping to roll a few times and then just decided to graze. A woman was wanting to ride in the arena, so I walked over to get her with halter in hand. All of a sudden…. RODEO PONY! Apparently she did have a ton of pent-up energy after all. She bucked and raced around and was a general nutcase. The other boarder gave me a carrot, but Rosie paid no attention to it. She was just flying around like a racehorse. The barn owner ended up coming to help me after I looked helpless for 10 minutes, probably because he didn’t want me to get kicked in the pregnant gut by this wild mustang.
So yeah, evidently something was up. Maybe this is how she shows her heat cycle? Who knows. I’m trying not to be miffed at her, since the only time I get to see her is on the weekend. Oh well, at least her new fly sheet looks slick.
And who could ever get sick of a view like this?
