I am late with this post. I had so many good intentions of keeping this blog updated once Henry arrived. I mean, a baby is just built in free content right? Turns out, it’s not that easy to open up the laptop and write anything when you have a newborn. Who knew? In fact, I am drafting this on an iPhone right now for the first time.
Henry is two weeks old! (Well, he’s actually a couple of days from being three weeks) He’s definitely been changing quickly. The first week he was sleepy all the time and things were very easy. I was even getting 6-8 hours of interrupted sleep a night in 3 hour increments! Now in week 2, he’s turned a corner and is now battling reflux or gas or something. In the evening, he acts as if he is hurting while feeding. We are using gas drops, different nursing positions, frequent burping, but nothing seems to help. It could also be my flow is coming down too fast.
He’s also growing like crazy. He is well over 8 pounds now, flying past his birth weight of 7 pounds 6 ounces. He is starting to fill out and get a bit of chub on his legs, chin, and belly. His eyes are starting to focus better and wander less, and we have gone on lots of short little adventures to the ranch, to the grocery store, and even to a lactation support group. He has some baby acne on his face, but that seems to be clearing up quickly.
My c-section is healing so well. At two weeks out, I basically can do anything I could do before surgery. I don’t have much pain aside from some occasional sensations at the incision site. I feel so lucky, and can’t wait to ride my horse again!
Car rides: Henry rarely cries in the car, which is great.
Being burped: his favorite holding position is over the shoulder, so he loves burping and will often fall asleep that way.
Baths: He has only had one so far, but he seemed to really enjoy the warm water. So cute!
Sleeping on my chest: we have given sleeping in the bassinet a real honest go, but Henry is just not into sleeping on his back. We are basically just nursing and then letting him pass out on my chest. He sleeps like 2-4 hours instead of the 30 minutes he will tolerate the bassinet.
Being swaddled: though he is an expert at getting his paws out, Henry loves to be all warm and swaddled. It’s so precious!
Peeing and pooping: these bodily functions are very stressful for little Henry. He screams bloody murder sometimes when he is peeing or is wet.
Being hungry: once he is hungry, I have to stop whatever I am doing and feed him NOW! He is so demanding and it is adorable.
Otherwise he is pretty much a happy baby all the time 🙂
