I’m a big Christmas person. Not because of getting presents, either — I could give fuck all about what I get for Christmas — but I love the whole holiday season. Cheesy or whatever, but I like the music, how neighbors say “Merry Christmas” to each other, how people put Rudolph noses and reindeer ears on their cars, how Starbucks has peppermint all-the-things, and I enjoy decorating our house for the holiday. Plus I usually get to see my parents, which is a nice treat.
This year we decided to take Henry to visit Santa. Protip on this: you can totally book an appointment online nowadays for most of the major malls. It was pretty rad to skip the entire giant line and go right to the front with less than 10 minute wait. I felt pretty bad for the parents with screaming impatient children. Henry wouldn’t look at the camera and they rush you in and out too fast to get a good picture, but I think his outfit more than made up for the lack of eye contact.
Our Christmas was pretty low key. My parents visited San Diego for a short 4-day trip, so it was wonderful to have Henry meet his grandpa for the first time (and his grandma for the second time). They bought him a Jumperoo, and he’s quite fond of it. (Photos below). I thought he was going to be too small for it, but it turns out that since he’s a tall baby it fits just fine! So much fun. My dad cooked a traditional ham and we made some green bean casserole of course, and we had pumpkin and chocolate pies. Our friend Caitlin came over as well and spent Christmas with us, and we played some Rock Band after my parents retreated to their hotel.
We didn’t spend too much on Henry this year since he has pretty much anything he could need and he doesn’t “want” anything yet. I got him a blanket, a tummy time mat, some sweat pants, and he got a few books as well. All in all, it was a lovely day.
