Today, I took Henry down to the most fabulous of stores. Buddha Baby in Normal Heights is a crunchy mama’s dream. So many wonderful products, from carriers and wraps/slings, to cloth diaper supplies, organic homemade clothes, all sorts of things. And they have classes as well. When I was there today, Mother’s Tea was going on so I decided to stay awhile. It’s a wonderful weekly event where moms can bring their babies, nurse, chat, and get to meet other mamas. I’m working on busting out of my shell and getting to know other moms, so this was a good start for me.
While I was down there I had an overwhelming sense of longing for my old neighborhood. These are my type of people, edgy and funky, wearing their babies and nursing in public and I don’t have that sort of village in the suburb of Poway. The ladies were talking about how they walked there, and I really miss being able to walk to hip places. Being here has its benefits too of course, but man do I miss that vibe.
While there, I tried on a Sakura Bloom silk Ring Sling and fell in love. It’s definitely my next purchase. I may sell a carrier to get it.
Other news is that I am trying the whole cloth diaper thing. The husband isn’t on board yet, but I am excited to try it out. I ordered prefold and covers and I have a couple AIOs too. Stoked!
Finally, and sadly, Henry starts full time daycare on Monday. We found him a lovely family/home daycare with 5 other kids and he will be well-cared for. But I am just feeling so crappy about it. I want to be a stay at home mom so bad. Alas, it is not meant to be. I am nervous about having to pump so much every day, but I refuse to switch to formula.
I’ll do a 5 month update post soon!---------------
