A month before the 4th of July, I was thinking that it might be fun to pack up the dogs and rent a house on AirBnB somewhere a couple hours from home. I was thinking Idyllwild, Big Bear, or Palm Springs and decided on Palm Springs because a rental home with a pool and central air sounded quite nice. The prices weren’t super cheap and I’m not 100% sure that it was worth the cost considering we only stayed there two nights. However, it was fun!
The backyard was spacious and secure with lots of green grass for the Boxers to run around on. It had a nice pool (it wasn’t heated, but it certainly didn’t need to be since the temperature was in the 100’s every day) and we took advantage of it by swimming every time we dried off. The sun was beating down on us so we didn’t get to really enjoy the outdoor space when we weren’t swimming, but we did fire up the grill and make some hot dogs to celebrate the 4th of July. We actually had to take breaks from eating outside and jump in the pool to cool off, which was pretty funny. The mountain view behind the house was gorgeous too!
My favorite aspect of Palm Springs is how most of the houses are mid-century modern in style, both inside and out. The home we rented (2 bedroom, 2 bathrooms) was clean, light, and bright inside with mostly IKEA decor, but it felt like we were back in the Mad Men days, which I appreciate.
I think the dogs really enjoyed the trip as well — they spent most of their time relaxing on the concrete floor or running around the backyard. All three of them hate swimming and avoided the pool at all costs, but it was a great trip for all involved. Us adults spent time relaxing, watching TV, playing Scattergories, and playing League of Legends (nerds at heart!). Next time, I’d love to spend more time in Palm Springs during slightly cooler weather so we can go hiking and enjoy more outdoor activities. It was a good little trip nonetheless, and I’m happy we did it.
